Joey O'Brian always dreamed of being an astronaut, but his career in the Air Force was short-lived. Joey didn't like the all the rules or the fact that they refused to call him "Maverick." The Air Force wasn't impressed Joey's lack of discipline, frequent disappearances, or recklessness with their very expensive planes. When Joey and the military mutually decided that he should seek other employment, he took a job with a commercial airline, where, despite the stewardesses, he was bored to tears. When his girlfriend kicked him out of the house, his sister Diane Force took him in. Once day as he was eating a bowl of Lucky Charms, he was bombarded by probability rays from one of Bruce's experiments. The rays gave him stretching powers and it wasn't long before he started going on scientific adventures with the rest of the Fantastic Force Family.
